What does Great Dane Powder Coating do?

Who We Are

Great Dane Powder Coating, Inc. is an industrial parts coating provider. We serve manufacturers throughout the eastern United States and across the eastern seaboard from Southwestern Pennsylvania.

The company was founded in 1991 as a regional powder coating shop. Over time, it grew into a full production coating partner. Today we finish parts for manufacturers across the eastern seaboard. Our customers range from local fabricators to national OEMs. Some send us a few custom parts. Others send us high-volume production runs, week after week. We handle both with the same care. Our job is simple to describe and hard to do well: take a bare metal part and give it a finish that lasts.

What makes Great Dane different?

Most coating shops offer one process. We offer two. Great Dane runs both powder coating and e-coating in-house, in two dedicated facilities. That means we can recommend the right process for each part, rather than fitting your part to the one process we happen to own.

For parts that face the harshest conditions, we can combine them. An e-coat primer goes on first, then a powder coat finish on top. That gives the corrosion protection of e-coat with the color, gloss, and UV durability of powder.

Because both processes are ours, you get one point of contact, one schedule, and one company accountable for the result. There is no handoff to a second vendor and no finger-pointing if something needs a second look.

Our Facilities

Where does the work happen?

Great Dane operates two dedicated coating plants in Loyalhanna, Pennsylvania. Our powder coating plant covers 18,000 square feet. Our e-coating plant is a separate 6,000 square foot facility. Running them separately is deliberate. Each process has its own equipment, its own controls, and its own trained crew. That separation protects quality and keeps both lines moving. Our e-coat line runs Axalta AquaEC 6000 series coatings, trusted for automotive and heavy-equipment corrosion protection. Together, the two plants give us room for small custom runs and large production orders alike. We coat parts from small brackets to large frames. Most orders ship on a 5-day turnaround, and we can often move faster when a schedule demands it.

What does quality look like here?

Our Standard

At Great Dane, quality isn’t a slogan on a wall. It’s a number the entire plant watches: a rework rate below 1%.

We’ve maintained that level of performance through years of production totaling well over a million parts. That consistency comes from treating defects as problems to solve—not costs to absorb.

When a recurring defect is identified, we don’t simply correct the affected parts. We look deeper to understand why it happened and eliminate the root cause. In one case, a recurring issue was traced to inadequate lighting at a single workstation. Improving the lighting eliminated the defect entirely.

That mindset continues throughout our operation: measure the process, identify what drives variation, eliminate the cause, and apply the improvement across the plant.

For our customers, that means fewer rejected parts, more consistent quality, predictable turnaround, and less risk to their own production schedules. Because quality isn’t just about catching problems—it’s about building a process designed to prevent them.

What is it like to work with us?

We aim to be a knowledgeable partner you can rely on. That starts with straight answers. Tell us about your parts, your volumes, and where they end up, and we will recommend a process and turn around a quote. From there, you get dependable communication and coatings that meet spec. We deliver on time and on budget, with no hidden fees. We also handle the work around the coating: surface preparation, masking, labeling, packaging, and light assembly. Parts arrive ready for your line. Often, our work reflects on the final quality of your product in front of your customer. We take that seriously. Recognizable names like Caterpillar, Manitowoc Cranes, and Spartan Motors trust us with their parts. So do the regional manufacturers who count on us week in and week out.

Who leads Great Dane?

Our People

Great Dane is led by a team with deep, hands-on experience. Gary Lamolinara is the Owner and General Manager. He has led Great Dane from its very first days. He sets the company standard for quality and reliability. Ean Lamolinara is the Sales Manager. He joined as an intern in 2022 and worked his way up to lead the company’s sales. He brings a customer-first view to every quote and project. Together, they keep Great Dane focused on two things: strong coatings and strong relationships. That long tenure gives the company a steady hand and a long memory for what works. Customers who call get direct answers from people who know the plant. That access matters when you are planning a run, setting a budget, or solving a coating problem.

Leadership & Operational Excellence

Strong operations start with strong leadership. At Great Dane, our management team brings hands-on experience, technical expertise, and a commitment to continuous improvement to every part of our operation.

Our leadership team oversees the complete powder coating and e-coating value stream—from scheduling and production to process optimization, preventive maintenance, workforce development, and quality. Because much of our leadership has grown within the organization, our management team understands our processes from the shop floor up and knows what it takes to deliver consistent results.

Quality remains at the center of that approach. Our team applies data-driven problem solving, Six Sigma principles, and ISO 9000-based quality practices to identify root causes, reduce variation, and continuously improve our processes. With more than a decade of quality engineering experience represented within our leadership team, we have the technical knowledge to address challenges at their source—not simply react to them.

The result is an operation built around accountability, continuous improvement, and dependable execution—giving our customers confidence that their products are in capable hands from receiving through final shipment.

See Our Work

The clearest way to judge a coating partner is to look at the parts. Our Project Gallery shows work across powder coat, e-coat, and dual-layer finishes, from small brackets to large frames. You will see the color range, the finish quality, and the variety of industries we serve. If you spot a job like yours, or a finish you want to match, we would like to hear about it. Tell us the substrate, the quantities, the environment, and any masking or tolerance needs. We will recommend the right process and quote the job. Call us at 724-537-9709, or request a quote to get started. We've been building a reputation as a reliable coating partner since 1991. We would welcome the chance to earn your next run.
