What automotive accessory parts does Great Dane coat?
Great Dane coats components and subassemblies for accessory manufacturers and the fabricators who supply them. Protection products include bumper shells, wings, center sections, winch trays, grille guards, bull bars, push bars, and brush guards. Step products include running board rails, formed step bodies, nerf bars, hoop steps, rock sliders, rocker guards, and hitch steps. Towing work includes receiver structures, crossmembers, side plates, ball mounts, safety-chain plates, winch mounts, and fairlead plates. Rack work includes crossbars, platforms, side rails, uprights, towers, mounting feet, bed rack frames, ladder racks, and headache racks. Why do bumper, guard, and running board manufacturers use e-coat?
Accessories rust from the inside of the tube out. A welded bumper, a tube step, or a receiver assembly has interior surfaces, seams, and edges a spray gun will never reach. Underneath a vehicle, those are the exact surfaces road salt finds first. An immersion process reaches them. Our e-coat system runs an eight-stage zinc phosphate pretreatment, then the electrocoat application. Racked parts enter a charged bath of Axalta AquaEC 6000 series coating, a cathodic epoxy primer. An automatic voltage control system delivers uniform film thickness regardless of the square footage being coated. Two properties matter most on accessory work. Throw power carries the coating into tube interiors and boxed structures. Edge protection covers the sheared plate edges and weld toes where rust starts. Film build stays thin and controlled, so bolt holes, receiver openings, and mounting faces hold tolerance. Closed tubes and boxed weldments need drain and vent paths so fluid does not stay trapped. Which racks, carriers, truck boxes, and fleet accessories are powder coated?
Powder coating handles the metal a customer sees on the shelf and on the truck. That covers rack crossbars, platforms, side rails, uprights, and towers. It covers cargo baskets, bike trays, carrier arms, and tire carrier frames. It covers toolbox bodies and lids, drawer housings, side and underbody boxes, and MOLLE panels. It covers bulkheads, partitions, shelving frames, ladder rack parts, and cab protectors. Powder coating applies a charged dry powder that heat cures into a hard film. That film resists chipping, scratching, impact, corrosion, chemicals, and UV fading. Aftermarket buyers are unusually particular about finish. Textured black is close to a category standard, and a shade that drifts between releases turns into a returned product. So color, gloss, and texture have to repeat exactly across a program. Aluminum and steel both run well, and each takes its own pretreatment approach. Our batch system handles long rack rails, ladder rack sections, and bed rack frames that will not fit a conveyor line.
When is a dual-layer finish the right choice for road and off-road exposure?
In this market, many manufacturers already specify it. Major accessory brands publish that they apply powder over e-coat on steel bumpers, welded grille guards, and running boards. On exposed steel, the combination is closer to an expected standard than an upgrade. The reason is straightforward. E-coat reaches the inside of a weldment, but it is an epoxy primer, and epoxy breaks down in sunlight. Powder delivers color, texture, and UV stability, but it cannot reach a tube interior. Each layer covers the other’s weakness. Great Dane applies the e-coat primer first, then the powder topcoat. The combination suits steel bumpers, guards, bull bars, rock sliders, running boards, tow structures, tire carriers, and off-road armor. Most coating shops run only one process. A dual-layer job then means two vendors, two shipments, and two quality systems, and nobody clearly owns the result. How does Great Dane protect mounting, sensor, and precision-fit surfaces?
Accessory parts are full of surfaces that have to stay bare. Getting that wrong is not a cosmetic issue. It is a part that will not bolt on. Receiver tube interiors and pin holes have to hold tolerance, because film build inside a receiver becomes a fit problem the installer finds first. Threads, bolt holes, press fits, hinge pins, latch surfaces, bearing seats, sliding tubes, and pivot bores all stay masked. So do mounting faces, gasket lands, and label areas. Newer vehicles add a second list. Parking sensor bores, radar module locations, camera mounts, antenna positions, wiring pass-throughs, light connector faces, and electrical grounds all have to stay clean. A coated ground is a warranty call. A coated sensor location can put a driver assistance system out of calibration. Our masking program uses conductive silicone plugs that mask the hole and support the part on the rack. For ferrous parts, we use custom silicone masks with high-temperature magnets molded in. What colors, textures, and finishes are available?
We work from stock colors when speed matters, and from special order colors when the match has to be exact. The aftermarket sells style as much as function, so finish standards here run tight. Textured black is the volume finish across most accessory categories. A customer comparing a new bumper against the steps already on the truck will notice a mismatch immediately, and so will a reviewer with a camera. Send a color number, a paint code, a sample panel, or a part from your current supplier. We will confirm what we can match before you commit. We also offer a range of gloss levels, textures, and metallic effects. Texture does more than look right on an accessory. It hides handling marks from shipping, installation, and the loading dock, which matters on a part that moves several times before a customer sees it. Coating sits between fabrication and final hardware. In this market it also sits in front of a launch date. Our 18,000 square foot powder coating plant and 6,000 square foot e-coating plant handle production volume. We take blanket orders with scheduled releases, and we take one-time lots. We also handle the work around the coating. That includes sandblasting, pretreatment, masking, ID sheets, labeling, barcodes, kitting, and protective packaging. Light assembly is available as well. Parts can arrive labeled, sorted, and kitted as a vehicle-specific set, ready for hardware or retail packaging. Protective packing matters here, because a scratched accessory is a returned accessory.
