What agricultural equipment and parts does Great Dane coat?
Great Dane coats components and subassemblies for agricultural equipment manufacturers. On the tractor and self-propelled side, that means cab frames, ROPS structures, chassis brackets, fenders, steps, grilles, hoods, guards, battery trays, seat mounts, access panels, wheels, and rims. Implement work includes main frames, hitch structures, toolbars, folding wings, gauge-wheel arms, stands, brackets, and covers. Planting and fertilizer work includes row-unit frames, seed-box supports, hoppers, spreader frames, ladders, and platforms. Why is e-coating used on tractor, implement, and farm machinery components?
Farm equipment often corrodes from inside the weldment out. Water, mud, and crop residue collect in boxed sections, folded channels, and overlapping joints. A spray gun cannot reach those surfaces. An immersion process can. Our e-coat system runs an eight-stage zinc phosphate pretreatment, then the electrocoat application. Racked parts enter a charged bath of Axalta AquaEC 6000 series coating. An automatic voltage control system delivers uniform film thickness regardless of the square footage being coated. The coating deposits on every conductive surface the bath reaches. That includes welds, edges, recesses, and interior surfaces of open structures. Film build stays thin and controlled rather than heavy, so tolerances hold on machined and mating features. E-coat works as a primer, a topcoat, or both. On farm equipment it most often serves as the primer under powder. Closed tubes and boxed frames need drain and vent holes so fluid does not stay trapped. Which implement frames, panels, guards, and attachments are powder coated?
Powder coating handles the metal a buyer sees and the metal that takes abuse. That covers implement main frames, toolbars, hitches, folding wings, gauge-wheel arms, and stands. It covers panels, guards, shields, doors, and hoods on balers, harvesters, and windrowers. It covers sprayer booms, tube frames, platforms, ladders, and guardrails. It covers spreader frames, hoppers, grain-cart panels, wagon chassis, wheels, and rims. Powder coating applies a charged dry powder that heat cures into a hard film. That film resists chipping, scratching, impact, corrosion, chemicals, and UV fading. It holds color and gloss across a full production run. Two things matter most to an equipment manufacturer. First, farm machinery sits outdoors for years and still has to look right at resale. Second, brand color has to match across many parts, many suppliers, and many releases. When is e-coat plus powder the right finish for farm equipment?
Some farm parts need more protection than either process gives alone. For those, Great Dane applies a dual-layer finish. We start with an e-coat primer that covers the whole part evenly. Then we add a powder topcoat for hardness, color, and UV performance. The e-coat guards the metal from the inside out. The powder guards the surface from the outside in. This suits fertilizer and manure equipment, sprayer frames, and welded implement structures with seams and cavities. It suits outdoor chassis parts that sit in the weather all season. It suits any part where a rust failure turns into a warranty claim in year two. Most coating shops offer one process. A dual-layer job then means two vendors, two shipments, and two quality systems. How do fertilizer, manure, crop chemicals, and weather affect the coating choice?
Coating selection on farm equipment starts with what touches the part. Fertilizer salts, manure, and forage residue all speed up corrosion. Pesticide and crop-treatment residue can attack metal when equipment is not cleaned. Fuel, oil, hydraulic fluid, and washdown chemistry add more. Mud, stones, freeze-thaw cycles, and years of outdoor storage add mechanical stress on top of the chemical load. No single powder is right for all of it. So we ask questions before we recommend a system. Which chemicals contact the part, at what concentration, and at what temperature? How long does residue sit before the equipment is washed? Is the part pressure washed, scraped, or steam cleaned? Where does abrasion actually occur? Does the surface contact seed, feed, fertilizer, manure, or water? The answers point toward a powder chemistry, a film build, or a dual-layer system. We will not promise that one standard finish survives every farm chemical. What color, masking, and finish options are available?
We work from stock colors when speed matters, and from special order colors when the match has to be exact. Brand color is part of an agricultural product, and dealers notice when a replacement part does not match. Send a color number, a paint code, a sample panel, or a part from your current supplier. We will confirm what we can match before you commit. We also offer a range of gloss levels and textured finishes. Masking matters as much as color on farm equipment. Threads, bearing bores, press fits, shafts, pins, and bushings have to stay bare. So do hydraulic ports, grease fittings, gasket lands, electrical grounds, connector faces, serial plates, and label areas. Our masking program uses conductive silicone plugs that mask the hole and support the part on the rack. For ferrous parts, we use custom silicone masks with high-temperature magnets molded in. Those masks are reusable and leave no tape residue. Mark every bare surface on your print and we will confirm the plan before the first lot.
