Great Dane coats components and subassemblies for HVAC and refrigeration manufacturers. On the heat-transfer side, that means condenser coils, evaporator coils, refrigeration coils, finned-tube coils, hydronic coils, radiators, and heat exchangers. We also coat the frames, headers, and side plates around them. On the fabricated side, we coat cabinet panels, access doors, base rails, structural frames, louvers, rain hoods, and coil guards. Air-handling work includes cabinet skins, filter racks, fan modules, mixing-box parts, and intake hoods. Fan and blower work includes scroll housings, tubular housings, wheels, impellers, motor bases, and drive frames. Air-distribution work includes grilles, diffusers, registers, linear slots, and louver blades. We also coat fan-coil cabinets, terminal-unit casings, control enclosures, roof curbs, and equipment rails. Our target is the bare metal part before final assembly. Why is e-coating used on HVAC coils and heat exchangers?

Coils fail at the surface long before they fail at the metal. Condensation sits on fins for months at a time. Coastal salt, industrial pollutants, pool chemistry, urban contamination, and cleaning agents all speed that up. A spray gun cannot reach between tight fins or into tube interfaces. Electrocoating can. Our e-coat system runs an eight-stage zinc phosphate pretreatment, then the electrocoat application. Racked parts enter a charged bath of Axalta AquaEC 6000 series coating. An automatic voltage control system delivers uniform film thickness regardless of the square footage being coated. The coating deposits on every conductive surface it reaches, including fin edges, seams, and recessed areas. Film build stays thin and controlled rather than heavy. That control is the whole point on a coil. The goal is corrosion protection with a film selected to limit its effect on heat transfer and airflow. Which HVAC cabinets, fan parts, and air-distribution products are powder coated?

Powder coating handles the metal people see and the metal that takes abuse. That covers cabinet panels, access doors, service panels, base rails, and structural frames on rooftop and condensing units. It covers air-handler skins, filter racks, fan decks, and weather hoods. It covers fan scrolls, tubular housings, wheels, guards, and motor bases. It also covers grilles, diffusers, registers, louver blades, and chilled-beam faces. Powder coating applies a charged dry powder that heat cures into a hard film. That film resists chipping, scratching, abrasion, corrosion, chemicals, and UV fading. It holds color and gloss across a full production run. Two things matter most to an HVAC manufacturer. First, outdoor equipment faces UV, rain, ice, hail, and service traffic for a decade or more. Second, visible products have to match a color exactly, release after release. Tell us the airstream chemistry, moisture, temperature, and sunlight exposure at quoting. When is a dual-layer finish the right choice for HVAC equipment?

Some HVAC parts need more protection than either process gives alone. For those, Great Dane applies a dual-layer finish. We start with an e-coat primer that covers the whole part evenly. Then we add a powder topcoat for hardness, color, and UV performance. The e-coat guards the metal from the inside out. The powder guards the surface from the outside in. This suits outdoor welded bases, frames, and housings with seams and hidden cavities. It suits fan modules and cabinet subassemblies headed for coastal or industrial sites. It suits any part where a corrosion failure means a service call on a roof. Most coating shops offer one process. A dual-layer job then means two vendors, two shipments, and two quality systems. What color, finish, and masking options are available?

We work from stock colors when speed matters, and from special order colors when the match has to be exact. Send a color number, a paint code, a sample panel, or a part from your current supplier. We will confirm what we can match before you commit. We also offer a range of gloss levels and textured finishes. Architectural air outlets usually carry the tightest color requirements on a job. Masking matters as much as color on HVAC work. Electrical grounds and bonding points have to stay bare. So do threaded holes, bearing bores, shafts, gasket lands, sealing faces, refrigerant connections, sensor ports, and drain paths. Our masking program uses conductive silicone plugs that mask the hole and support the part on the rack. For ferrous parts, we use custom silicone masks with high-temperature magnets molded in. Those masks are reusable and leave no tape residue. Mark every bare surface on your print and we will confirm the plan before the first lot.

Coating sits between fabrication and assembly. A missed coating date can stop a coil line, a cabinet line, or a rooftop unit build. Great Dane runs a 5-day standard turnaround on most work.
